You know already that type-2 diabetes, glucose levels, and nutritional choices affecting them all but require you to change the way to see food and instead of reaching for the thus far acceptable comfort foods of sugar or fat laden cakes, chips, and chocolate. It is now time to change the way you eat to such an extent as to bring about a serious change in the overall health of your body. You may be able to make modifications and not require diabetes insulin. Granted, some changes are easier made than others, but by and large the nutritional changes do not have to be as complicated and tiresome as they are made out to be by some. Instead, choose wisely and your changing levels of stamina, overall health, fitness, weight loss, and perhaps even triumph over type-2 diabetes, glucose levels, and other ailments will spur you on to continue on your road to systemic health improvements.
Here are some tips and tricks to make the journey easier and more palatable.
- Stay hydrated. You may not realize it, but your pancreatic function is tied to your body's level of hydration and failure to ingest adequate amounts of water will have consequences that are more far reaching than simply a thirst for more. Do your body, glucose levels, and insulin producing pancreas a favor and drink your eight glasses of water each and every day.
- Stay away from the empty calories of sugary sodas, sticky juices that upon closer examination are little more than sugar water laced with fruit flavorings, and also sports drinks which are often laced with skyrocketing amounts of carbohydrates in an effort to bring about a quick boost of energy but in doing so will wreak havoc with the blood glucose levels of those suffering from type-2 diabetes. Glucose spikes must be avoided, and the energy drinks that contain carbohydrates as their main vehicle of energy are detrimental to your health and caloric intake. Choose the higher quality fruit juices instead; they are made from real fruit, do not contain added sugar, and are healthier and less harmful to your diabetic diet.
- Do not withhold dairy from your body. Whenever possible, choose the kind of dairy that is low fat, but if you must, go ahead and drink whole milk — but do so in moderation!
- Junk food is no longer an option since type-2 diabetes — glucose levels are not as much of a problem as the overindulgence in likely weight gain causing food sources is — must be counteracted with a healthier diet. Yet better options are nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies, and a host of other healthy snack choices that have few calories and are just as satisfying as a bag of chips — but without the fat and carbohydrates known to make dieting difficult.
- Of the most importance in any good dietary management must be the methodology of food preparation, and while you know that frying your food in plenty of oil is probably not a good choice, it is not as widely known that baking and searing, as well as poaching and steaming are the best ways of keeping food flavorful and healthy, yet devoid of added fat calories.
